Flash and Arrow Paleyfest Trailers Are Fucking Awesome

This last weekend both Flash and Arrow went out to PaleyFest 2015. I watched both the live streams through Yahoo and was reminded of how much fun this little DC TV Universe has become. These characters are touching the hearts and minds of fans across the country without being too hokey and avoiding the grimdark approach the DC Cinematic Universe appears to be taking. A highlight for me was a child reciting the "My name is Barry Allen..." opening monologue. It was disgustingly cute. Was there anything better than a child getting to speak to someone he will likely idolize for the rest of his life? No, but there were some insanely good trailers. As the internet loves to proclaim. Hashtag hype.

Cowboy Bepop: Sympathy for the Devil Review

"Do you understand?" - Wen
If I had to describe this episode in one word, it would be "enigmatic." The air of mystery about itself is far off more artistic than any episode prior, with little interest in reality. Admittedly, it plays within the confines of its own reality, as with all the best science fiction, Cowboy Bepop uses its artistry and bold ideas to tell a sad story. We can boil this episode down in logistical terms the episode presents for us (Spike stops an ageless mobster in a young boy's body) or further engulf ourself in the essence of mystery clearly intended.

MARCH MADNESS ROUND 2: What is the Best Animated Disney Movie?

DIEGO'S NOTE: We've done it! As part of our MARCH MADNESS celebration, we've gathered a series of scientific, and factual, opinions to determine what is the best animated Disney movie classic? Our answers surprised us too.

I also talk about CHAPPiE and how shitty it was. Wow. What a literal pile of crap.

And that Tomorrowland trailer inspires us to shrug "Okay, I guess"

Powers Pilot Review: Yes, No, and Maybe

DIEGO'S NOTE: This will be a quick one since it's a bit hectic this week.

Powers is a mixed bag. I wouldn't say anything is outright awful but it seems at war with itself. Is it a noir? The constant bright lighting would suggest otherwise, though plenty of noir tropes can be found here. Or maybe it's not trying to be dark? Then why would it focus on a character who is as tormented as Sharlto Copley's Christian Walker? All these questions still don't deter me from being interested in this world.

Man of Steel vs Destruction of Metropolis

DIEGO'S NOTE: Stuff like this is why I hate deadlines (especially ones I give myself). Sometimes we just get bombarded with so many different ways to discuss a topic, we end up with a small idea giving birth to a dozen other ideas! Maybe that's what happened with this movie.
After my last bit on Man of Steel (if you can call a thousand words "a bit") I felt satisfied with what I had to say about my repeat viewing of the movie. I do still have more to say left over from previous viewing experiences but my previous article is kinda required reading so I don't repeat myself too much here. We know where this is headed: the destruction of Metropolis in Man of Steel.

House of Cards Season 3 Review: Who Cares?

DIEGO'S NOTE: The intro to this House of Cards review discusses slightly spoilerish things relating to Homeland so if you're not caught up on that, here is your SPOILER warning for that show. Spoilers for House of Cards because it's way too difficult to discuss everything that works/doesn't work without mentioning as much as possible.

Cowboy Bepop: Gateway Shuffle Review

Sorry for the delay in AniMondays! Last week got a little busy with, ya know, LIFE. But have no fear! I've brought you no one, but TWO reviews of Cowboy Bepop this week. Click here to read about 'The Ballad of Fallen Angels' because we're talking about some serious monkey business that goes down in 'Gateway Shuffle'

Spoilers for this episode and whatnots below the cut:

Cowboy Bepop: Ballad of Fallen Angels Review

Love and loss seem to be the biggest motivators for Spike. I can't pin down what happened with him, but it's pretty clear he lost someone important in his life. 'Ballad of Fallen Angels' confirmed my suspicions even if I don't know the endgame yet. It also confirmed my suspicions that this Cowboy Bepop is very much a masterpiece. I haven't gone past the midway point of the series before starting this feature, but of the episodes I saw, I was most amazed by 'Ballad of Fallen Angels'

RUMOR: Drew Goddard to Write/Direct Spectacular Spider-Man Series

"LIVING ON THE EDGE, FIGHTING CRIME, SPINNING WEBS"
After the massive explosion that occurred a few weeks ago with Sony and Marvel announcing their collaborative efforts at revitalizing our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, now comes news from LATINO REVIEW that Amazing is officially dead. Spectacular is in. This has nothing to do with the straight up excellent animated series that aired a few years ago, but here are the highlights of what's happening:

March Marvel Movie Madness: What is the Best Marvel Movie?

In preparation for Avengers: Age of Ultron, we thought we’d take the month of March to determine what is is the best Marvel movie. It doesn’t need to be strictly Marvel Studios production as long as the movie originates from a Marvel comics superhero property.

Here's how you can help us pick the best Marvel Movie:
  • There weren't enough movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet, so we had to pick the best of other Marvel franchises, and used the Tomatometer at rottentomatoes.com to determine their placement.
  • Each vote is to support your favorite or what you consider to be the best Marvel movie.
  • We will be discussing the choices, while voting on our own brackets, each week on The Waffle Press Podcast until the end of the month.
  • This poll will continue until April 1st but if you want to partake in more voting, subscribe to our YouTubeTwitter, and Tumblr pages for more opportunities to support your picks later this week!
We'll be following this every week on the podcast and discussing our picks in the bracket, so make sure you subscribe to our SoundCloud too!
