RUMOR: Drew Goddard to Write/Direct Spectacular Spider-Man Series

"LIVING ON THE EDGE, FIGHTING CRIME, SPINNING WEBS"
After the massive explosion that occurred a few weeks ago with Sony and Marvel announcing their collaborative efforts at revitalizing our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, now comes news from LATINO REVIEW that Amazing is officially dead. Spectacular is in. This has nothing to do with the straight up excellent animated series that aired a few years ago, but here are the highlights of what's happening:

  • The working title is The Spectacular Spider-Man
  • The relaunch is envisioned as a more cohesive trilogy ala Raimi's films, with plans for further trilogies every few years.
  • Peter Parker is going to be in high school and he's already gone through his origin. They know audiences tire of his origin.
  • They want to cast young so the actor can grow up in through the films like Harry Potter (which if you know me, is probably the most exciting thing they could have said).
  • Drew Goddard's planned Sinister Six movie is scrapped. The Sinister Six will instead be integrated into the story.
  • Iron Man will supposedly fight Spider-Man in attempt to be recruited into The Avengers.
  • The potential Aunt May movie was fucking real oh my god.
  • Avi Arad, the man responsible for the last 3 crappy Spider-Man movies, is out. Amy Pascal is in. Kevin Feige
Of all this news, I'm surprised Drew Goddard is returning to Marvel. He left the netflix Daredevil show to work on the Sinister Six property for Sony. Things have a funny way of working out. (Goddard was one of my picks for the potential Spidey directors here).

We know the Spider-Man movie is happening, but every little morsel that drops from the rumor mill has me foaming at the mouth. If anybody can save Spider-Man "amazing" again, it's Marvel.

UPDATE: Dylan O'Brien confirms he is not playing Spider-Man
